Dru Yoga Classes in the Hall are inclusive, designed to be practised by people of all abilities, all fitness levels and all age groups. (It is not a form of Yoga that can only be accessed by very bendy people who look good in lycra!). These classes are suitable for beginners as well as those more practised in Yoga. Everyone from children to their great grandparents, can improve physical and mental balance, strength and flexibility through practising this form of Yoga.

Dru Yoga is a graceful and potent form of Yoga, based on flowing movements, directed breathing and visualisation. The Sanskrit word ‘Dru’ means ‘North Star’, it also translates as ‘still point’, that calm, quiet space which can free us from the stresses and strains of modern life.

With its foundations set firmly in ancient Yogic tradition, Dru is a hatha-based form of Yoga that works on body, mind and spirit. Physically it improves general strength and flexibility; it also develops physical stability, protecting and promoting a healthy spine. Dru Yoga classes are relaxing; many movements are practised with awareness, co-ordinating body and breath. Emotionally this builds a heightened feeling of positivity, rejuvenation and well-being.

Typically Dru Yoga classes will include: activations, movement sequences for strength and flexibility, postures and pranayama (breath techniques). The sessions always end with a deep relaxation. Modifications to suit different abilities and fitness levels are always demonstrated in class. There is a strong emphasis on the importance of listening to your own body on any given day, on stretching but never straining

The Dru Yoga Classes are run by Dru Yoga specialist, Llangennith village resident, Jan Hilditch who is also a trained and accredited Yoga Therapist and Meditation Teacher. As well as running the weekly communal Dru Yoga Class in the Hall, she is available to work one-to-one, for personalised Yoga or therapy sessions, and to run one-off workshops from the Hall.

Villagers and visitors are welcome. Cost is £10 per session ‘drop-in’ rate or £8 per session for a half term’s classes payable in advance.

I am new to Dru Yoga and was given a warm and friendly welcome by Jan, who offers a wonderful space to explore movement and relaxation, with expert guidance… Come and join us!
