Unable to use the Covid safety measures implemented by larger commercial gyms, it has taken us a while and some creative thinking to complete the detailed risk assessment necessary to enable the gym to open and be used in a way that enables us to fulfil our responsibility and commitment to the safety of users, staff and volunteers.
Ironically, we were planning to reopen the gym to existing members week beginning 19th October 2020 but have been stymied by Mark Drayford’s announcement of the circuit breaker lockdown. Subject to the Welsh Government’s ongoing restrictions, we now hope to reopen the gym to existing members immediately after the circuit breaker finishes on November 9th. We will be piloting the new gym use system with the existing members for a suitable period and then, if all seems to be working well, we will invite previous users and others to re-join.
To prepare for using the gym safely, individuals will be invited to visit the Hall to have their fob updated and to have the Covid rules and procedures explained. All users will be asked to sign a commitment to abide by these. Key elements of the system include:
One user at a time (or joint members of a single household)
Bookable 90 minute slots – users must leave the gym 15 minutes before the end of the slot to allow the air to circulate and clear
Manual booking system allowing exercise slots to be booked up to two weeks in advance
Users responsible for cleaning handles and surfaces before and after use – cleaning materials being provided by the gym
Towels and other clothing being kept either on one’s person or placed on the floor – not hung on machines!
Access only to the gym, entrance hall, and disabled loo
The wall fans will be on the whole session to circulate air
Masks will be worn at all times when not exercising
No use if exhibiting any Covid symptoms or in self-isolation or quarantine
The WORD document that all users will be asked to read and sign acceptance of Covid rules and procedures may be viewed and/or downloaded by clicking HERE.
We thank you all, both our current and our past gym members, for your patience and we hope that you will soon be able to resume your fitness regime.
